Quarrygirl.com has uncovered a major story out of Los Angeles:
“So, we divided up the work between us, and dedicated a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday as well as over $1,000 of our collective money to pulling off the most extensive scientific test that we know of to find out, once and for all, if samples of restaurant food are vegan or not.” (HT: BoingBoing)
They snuck into several vegan restaurants in L.A. and sampled the cuisine to determine if the menu items were truly “vegan”, or if they had “contaminants” in them… such as, egg products. The amount of detail that they go into in the story is fascinating. They selected a list of restaurants, surreptitiously bagged up samples from each of them, tested them, and lo and behold! The restaurants that are catering to the vegan crowd, in many cases, are serving them meat products.
I don’t feel the need to go into a rant about the cult of veganism right now, but I thought they actually did a good job on the story. It’s original, it’s interesting, and it’s compelling to their target audience. Not only that, they were willing to investigate a group of restaurants that supposedly share their same ideology, and they were willing to expose the truth. How many reporters in newsrooms do you think would actually have the spine to report on something negative about their favorite political party?
