Broadcast Story Ideas for July 20-26, 2009

Here’s the list for this week of feature story ideas for broadcast journalists. Feel free to use or modify any of these, and as always, send us a link to your story if you use any of them & we’ll post them here.1. Tour de France. The race continues throughout this week, so this one could be used any day. Find a local cycling club or other group of enthusiasts for a feature story.

2. Solar Eclipse. A total solar eclipse happens on July 22, 2009. It might not be visible from the western hemisphere, but science geeks everywhere will be looking forward to it.

3. Parents Day. The 4th Sunday of every July is recognized as national Parents Day. As America is now in full post-Christian self-destruct mode, find a Christian family that has its act together, and talk to the parents about why they stick together and how they do it. Also, consider finding a local family that’s in the Quiver Full movement, with lots of kids for a feature story.

4. Birthday of the Ice Cream Cone. The ice cream cone became popular during the 1904 World’s Fair, so July 23 is recognized as the “birthday” of the summer treat, even though the history of its invention is shrouded with controversy.
